The University of Geneva (UNIGE) is highly regarded by all reliable University Rankings Tables, particularly for its international mix of both students and teachers. This international mix is particularly important to the University given the demographic of the city of Geneva, there are over 29,000 foreign civil servants working, 174 different states represented and 33 international organizations. Founded in 1559, UNIGE campus has 40% international students, and 60% international teaching staff, representing 153 nationalities.

With around 18,000 students, UNIGE is the second largest university in Switzerland and its numbers are constantly on the rise. UNIGE offers more than 290 programs and more than 300 continuing education programs covering a wide variety of fields such as exact sciences, medicine, humanities, social sciences, economics law, and much more. Over 100 of its programs are taught on a bilingual or fully English platform. The International Organizations MBA (IOMBA) and Executive MBA (EMBA) at UNIGE, offer both full-time and part-time tracks with a cutting-edge curriculum at the intersection of business and international public affairs. UNIGE MBA programs were first developed in two distinct market demands; they experienced myriad of changes over the last couple of decades to keep pace with the ever-evolving market demands, and the strategic advantage of its location with a specialized focus on International Organizations (IOs). Geneva is home to more than 20 major international organizations.

UNIGE MBA programs help participants gain in-depth knowledge and skills to integrate various levels of the organization, an experience which represents an important catalyst for our participants to move up the ladder or to reflect on or change their career paths. It is a challenging but also rewarding once in a lifetime learning experience.

Created in 1992, IOMBA is a unique program designed to attract world class future managers of International Organizations (IOs), International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Transnational Corporations (TNCs) from around the world. The IOMBA offers a multidisciplinary curriculum taught by faculty from worldwide leading universities as well as recognized professionals from IOs and NGOs. It offers part-time and full-time programs that can be completed in 2 or 3 years, leading to a Certificate (CAS), Diploma (DAS), or the MBA Degree.
IOMBA Program Structure (full-time): a total of 90 ECTS credits including 24 modules, a 3-month practicum and MBA Project, to be completed in one year.
IOMBA Program Structure (part-time): a total of 90 ECTS credits including 24 modules in blocks of 3 modules combined with virtual courses, and MBA Project, to be completed in 2 or 3 years.
CAS/DAS structure Program Structure: 4 to 12 modules as selected by participants, in a block-style or individual format over 1 or 2 years.

Executive MBA
UNIGE EMBA, created in the late 1990s, is structured to ensure that participants gain leadership training through active participation, and a corporate executive perspective. It provides executives with a first-class general management education without interrupting their careers. It teaches participants to build foundational skills and confidence to expand their capacity to lead and face cross-functional challenges. UNIGE EMBA carefully selects the participant mix through a rigorous 4-step selection process to ensure a high quality peer-to-peer exchange.

EMBA Program Structure: a total of 90 ECTS credits including 24 modules and an In-Company MBA project, available in 2 formats -

1) Traditional structure: 24 modules scheduled on alternate week-ends (Fridays 2pm-9pm & Saturdays 8am-1pm), to be completed over 2 years. This format is ideal for the local manager wishing to gain
2) Block format: 6 blocks of 3 modules combined with virtual courses, and an MBA Project, to be completed over 2 years. This format is ideal for the international student who is conscious of travel time, as well as the local Geneva student with a demanding full-time workload.

After completing the first year of the EMBA, students may join the International Management program (block format) or the Entrepreneurial Leadership program (bi-weekly), both featuring as traditional MBA curriculum. Students may also pursue their studies in one of 15 specializations in English or French. English Specializations in: Aviation, International Commodity, Corporate Social Responsibility, International Management, International Organizations, Modern Management for Non-Profit Organizations, and Strategic Marketing.

Block format programs: Aviation, Commodity Trading, and International ManagementParticipants can interchange modules between the traditional and bloc formats.

Candidates are requested to register and apply online through the IO-MBA application form. A completed application includes information concerning your educational and professional background and international experience. To complete and submit an online application, the following documents have to be uploaded:

Exacutive MBA

  • Because of its reputation for excellence, admission to the EMBA Program is highly selective.
  • Admission to the program is based on the candidate's application file; potentially qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
  • Great importance is attributed to the quality of academic record, personal motivation and relevance of the professional experience.

Admission criteria

  • University Degree, or equivalent (i.e. Bac+3,... )
  • Pertinent work experience - 3 years minimum in a managerial position (excluding training sessions)

Required skills

  • Strong command of both written and spoken English
  • Computer office tools (spreadsheet, word processor, presentation tools)
  • Basic Accounting understanding (balance sheets/income statement, P&N, EBITDA) or ability to assimilate numbers and concepts

Selection process

The application process includes 4 steps which normally takes 5-6 weeks:

  1. Validation of application & documents submitted online
  2. Quality check of the application / dossier
  3. One-hour interview with one of the MBA alumni for candidates whose application is approved in Steps 1 & 2. It is normally conducted in person; it may be done via skype, if necessary
  4. Review of validated applications and final decision by the Directing Committee

Notification is sent to candidates by email.

Educational & Living Expenses

A quality MBA education represents a significant investment of time, effort and money, both on the part of the school and that of the student.  The University of Geneva assumes most of these costs, as reflected in our comparatively low tuition fees. Additional support may be provided in the form of scholarships.

To help you estimate financial obligations required to attend the International Organizations MBA programme, the following estimated budget is provided for the academic year indicated. The budget includes educational expenses for the whole program and an estimate of the living expenses per month. If you intend to stay in Geneva for your internship, then you should allow for additional expenses. Tuition and fees are subject to change each year.

The enrolment fee is 1,500 CHF. As of day one of the program, should a participant decide to withdraw, 50% of the entire tuition fees are due. Should a participant leave the program during the academic year, 100% of the tuition fees are still due. Should a participant not obtain his/her degree, tuition fees are not reimbursed.
